Young Enterprise

In keeping with its "learn by doing" philosophy, Young Enterprise is developing a new QuickStart programme in response to a growing demand from teachers for a short and sharp introduction to enterprise. Students aged 14-16 will set up their own mini-company and create a product or service to sell at the end of the programme. Students will have a free choice of the type of industry and product or service to trade.

Past experience with schools shows that music is increasingly the subject of choice for pupils, reflecting their own interests and passion. This presents an opportunity to provide a music-specific version of the QuickStart programme, which Young Enterprise are now developing in partnership with British Music Rights.

This exciting collaboration will bring enterprise, creativity and music-making together. Participants will learn how the creative sectors of the economy work, how to value intellectual property through copyright, and what essential business skills they need to develop viable careers and businesses in music. It will be piloted in select schools in autumn 2006.
